About the Program

The Young Forest Champions Initiative under the AIM4Forests programme is designed to empower the next generation of environmental leaders to take meaningful action in forest conservation and climate resilience.

In 2026, 60 young leaders (10 from each participating country) will be selected to join a dynamic network working to restore forests, monitor ecosystems, and protect vital landscapes.

Participants will gain practical skills through mentorship, capacity development, and exposure to innovative technologies such as remote sensing. Beyond training, the initiative supports youth-led solutions that strengthen ecosystems, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable development at the community level.

This programme builds a global network of conservation changemakers while equipping participants to implement lasting environmental solutions.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be 18–30 years old at the time of application
  • Live in Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Peru, Uganda, or Zambia
  • Be a current university student or recent graduate (within 2 years)
  • Have intermediate or higher English proficiency
  • Have reliable internet access for programme participation
  • Commit fully to programme activities throughout 2026

Preferred qualities:

  • Interest or experience in forestry, climate action, or environmental protection
  • Community engagement or volunteer experience
  • Applications from women, Indigenous groups, and persons with disabilities are encouraged
