Artificial Intelligence is shaping the future, and this time, Africa is being called to lead, not follow. The ATF AI Challenge 2026 is a fully funded, hands-on program designed to equip young Africans with practical AI skills and real-world problem-solving experience.
Organized by the African Technology Forum, this initiative aims to train and empower over 15,000 young innovators across the continent. It’s not just another online course; you’ll actually learn, build, and launch solutions that address real challenges in sectors like health, agriculture, finance, and education.
The journey begins with a 4-week virtual AI School (June–July 2026), where participants are introduced to key concepts such as AI ethics, Python fundamentals, and prompt engineering. What makes this particularly accessible is that you don’t need prior coding experience; there’s a beginner-friendly track to help you get started.
After that, participants move into the Challenge Phase (August 2026 – April 2027), where you’ll form teams and develop practical solutions. The top 1,000 teams receive mentorship from global tech experts and access to cloud computing resources to build real prototypes.
The program concludes with a high-stakes Demo Day in May 2027, hosted across major African cities like Lagos, Nairobi, Accra, and Johannesburg. Here, standout teams pitch their innovations to investors, employers, and industry leaders, opening doors to funding, jobs, and long-term opportunities.

Eligibility
- Must be based in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, or South Africa
- Open to university students or recent graduates (0–3 years)
- Passion for technology and innovation
- No prior AI or coding experience required (beginner-friendly track available)
- Must be able to commit 5–10 hours per week during the AI School

Application
