EERC Fellowship 2026 for Nigerian Researchers (Monthly Stipend)

Application Deadline: June 30, 2026

Applications are now open for the EERC Fellowship 2026, a unique opportunity for mid- to senior-level researchers in Nigeria to advance their careers while contributing to impactful research in agriculture, climate change, environmental management, and sustainable development. The fellowship offers a sabbatical-style placement that combines independent research, mentorship, institutional collaboration, and professional growth.

Hosted by the Environmental and Economic Resource Centre (EERC), the programme is designed for experienced academics and researchers seeking to expand their leadership capacity, strengthen research networks, and contribute to solutions addressing Africa’s most pressing environmental and development challenges.

The EERC Fellowship 2026 Cohort 4 will support qualified researchers from Nigerian universities and research institutions who wish to spend between 9 and 18 months working closely with EERC and its partners.

Selected fellows will be integrated into EERC’s ongoing programmes and research activities while pursuing independent research aligned with the organization’s priorities. Fellows will also have opportunities to supervise staff and early-career scientists, contribute to grant development, and support collaborative projects within EERC and its partner networks.

The fellowship is particularly seeking applicants with expertise in:

  • Climate change, climatology, climate-smart agriculture, remote sensing, and land-use systems
  • Agricultural economics, environmental economics, development economics, and macroeconomic modelling
  • Rural sociology, citizen science, digital agriculture, gender, and social inclusion

Beyond conducting research, fellows will engage with a vibrant network of international scholars and institutions. This provides an excellent platform for building long-term partnerships and enhancing the global visibility of their work.

Researchers with innovative ideas may also receive support to implement research projects that contribute directly to EERC’s strategic priorities across agriculture, natural resource conservation, livelihood development, and environmental sustainability.
