About the AU Digital & Innovation Fellowship Program

The AU Digital & Innovation Fellowship Program is a transformative initiative designed to empower Africa’s top digital innovators by embedding them within African Union institutions. The program supports the implementation of continental priorities such as digital transformation, governance modernization, and improved public service delivery.

During the fellowship, participants work directly with AU departments to identify operational challenges and co-develop technology-driven solutions. Since its launch in 2021, the program has helped strengthen institutional capacity and advance Africa’s digital future.

The 2026 cohort will select 12 fellows across specialized technical tracks. Fellows will contribute to data management, digital platforms, citizen engagement tools, and institutional efficiency improvements.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of an African Union member state and currently living in Africa
  • Be under 35 years old at the time of application
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification
  • Have experience in digital innovation, data systems, or technology solutions
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Be able to relocate to Addis Ababa for 12 months
  • Be willing to travel for bootcamps and program activities
  • Be proficient in at least one AU official language (English is an advantage)
