About the GSMA Innovation Fund for Green Transition for Mobile
The GSMA Innovation Fund for Green Transition for Mobile supports enterprises tackling two urgent global challenges:
- Expanding clean energy access to enable digital inclusion
- Promoting mobile device circularity to reduce emissions and improve handset affordability
Across many low- and middle-income countries, unreliable electricity prevents millions from fully participating in the digital economy. At the same time, handset affordability remains one of the biggest barriers to internet adoption.
This fund provides financial and technical support to innovative, revenue-generating businesses that use mobile and digital technologies (including AI, IoT, mobile money, USSD, data analytics, etc.) to:
- Improve access to renewable energy
- Reduce e-waste and emissions
- Extend device lifespan through repair and refurbishment
- Increase the availability of affordable refurbished phones
The initiative aligns with global climate goals and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
